In the United States:
- Trauma is the leading cause of death for individuals up to the age of 45.
- It’s the fourth leading cause of death overall across all ages.
- Nearly 40,000 lives are lost to homicide and suicide each year.
- In 2001, over 30,000 suicides were reported.
Motor Vehicle Crashes:
- In 2005, there were a staggering 43,443 deaths and 2.7 million injuries due to motor vehicle crashes in the US.
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI):
- TBI is the single largest cause of death from injury in the United States.
- Annually, approximately 1,000,000 people in the US suffer from TBI.
- Of these, 230,000 require hospitalization, and 50,000 lose their lives (comprising one-third of all trauma deaths).
