  • 2021 Abstract Due Date: Please check back for information on the 2021 event. All abstract guidelines for 2020 will be applicable for the 2021 event.
  • Please read carefully! There is opportunity for posters as well as formal podium presentations in front of the Symposium audience.
  • Any nurse, resident, researcher (non-physician), or attending physician, is eligible to submit an abstract to be considered for approval for a poster or podium presentation in front of the Symposium audience.
    • CLARIFICATION FOR ARIZONA SURGICAL RESIDENTS – In previous years, the Arizona Chapter of the ACS Resident Competition was held in conjunction with our event, the Southwest Trauma & Acute Care Symposium (STACS); however, for several years, these events have been separated into two distinct events with different dates and locations.       You may submit your abstract for consideration for a poster and/or podium presentation at STACS as well as the ACS-AZ competition. Acceptance at one event does not influence or inhibit acceptance at the other. You must submit separately to be considered for both.
    • STACS – Your abstract will be considered for presentation with all other abstracts submitted to the Arizona Trauma Association.
  • On the online abstract form YOU MUST indicate whether your submission is for:
    • Audience (podium) presentation only
    • Poster, if audience (podium) presentation is not approved by the Abstract Committee
    • Poster presentation only
  • Those abstracts accepted for poster or podium/audience presentations will be notified by Arizona Trauma Association to the Corresponding Author listed on the submission.
  • The presenting author should be listed first in the order of authors. All communications will be directed to the presenting author only.
  • An individual may submit more than one abstract.
  • Individuals whose abstracts are accepted for poster or podium presentation must register for STACS but will not be charged a registration fee to attend
  • If your abstract is accepted, you must be in attendance to present your work and compete for prizes.

Submission Guidelines


  • Please check back for details on 2021 submission deadlines.
  • All abstract and presentation materials must be in compliance with copyright laws.
  • Abstract content, posters, and presentations should be your original work. It is acceptable to have presented your work at other meetings; however, work that has been published in Journals may not be submitted.

Poster (Hard Copy) Presentations

  • For abstracts accepted for poster display:
    • You are responsible for putting up your own poster on the boards at the Symposium
    • You must be in attendance during the Poster Session to present and discuss your abstract
    • Poster size must be NO LARGER THAN 4′ x 4′
    • Poster session will Thursday, October 7, 2021. The schedule of poster presentations and the time allotted for each presentation will be provided to you prior to the event
  • Suggested AZTrACC guidelines for poster submission.

Podium Presentations (in front of the Symposium audience)

Those abstracts accepted for presentations in front of the Symposium audience must follow these guidelines:

  • You must be in attendance to present your abstract on Thursday, October 7, 2021. The schedule of podium presentations will be provided to you prior to the event.
  • Podium presentations are limited to 12 minutes each (10 minutes followed by 2 minute question/answer session)
  • Abstracts accepted for podium presentation must submit their PPT to the conference coordinators at least ONE WEEK in advance of the event. The presenting author will also be required to complete a financial disclosure for CME purposes.
  • Please limit your presentation to <10 slides.


Prizes will be awarded on Friday, October 8, 2021. The following prizes will be awarded to each of the winners as follows:


  • $250 – First Place
  • $125 – Second Place
  • $75 – Third Place
